I had not really thought about this detail until now. Didn’t think twice about a kicked in door, it doesn’t seem out of place in a crime, just something you kind of read through. However, do we think that the perpetrator kicked in the door for an element of surprise? (I think that is with most cases) Or possibly that they knew the family would not let them in/already tried knocking/ringing the bell and the family went to hide because they knew who the perp was. The only reason I see the perp killing the parents IF this was only about Jayme (which I do not know how I feel about that), is if they could recognize/name him. Most of children that are kidnapped, their parents are left completely fine. Or if they DIDNT know the perp, the perp had a reason to be very angry with the parents. I still do not know what I think fully about this case. I’ve read everything on r/JaymeCloss but would love to hear any and all opinions/theories. This is my first post ever sorry if it rambles on.
There are several methods, the most thorough of which is to replace the door and frame as a unit, and this is what insurance would usually pay for due to difficulties with half-measures. You might try replacing the portion that splintered by using good joinery techniques to fit in a new section of frame, adding such shims and metal reinforcement plates as might fit the particular situation. (Plates are available at retail for the door itself which wrap around the door at the lock area, for example, or serve as a strong strike plate on the frame). Door and frame ratings for fire and smoke cannot be maintained without replacing the unit to the best of my knowledge and experience.
We don't know what the situation was in that house or what the situation was with their guns. The mother and daughter might have had some familiarity with guns but that doesn't mean they would know what to do in a panic situation. Guns are something that have to be almost an automatic conditioned response for someone to be really comfortable using them in an emergency. That takes many hours at the range. Preferably hundreds of hours of shooting. At least dozens of hours. Most women aren't that interested in them to put in that kind of time with them. Frankly they bore me and I go to the range because my SO drags me there and makes me practice sometimes.
Remove the clamps. Scrape off any residual dried glue, using the side of the putty knife. Clean the mortise with the end of the putty knife. If it has become distorted, use a chisel to clean and cut the edges of the mortise so the striker plate fits into it as before, with the hole in the plate centered over the hole in the jamb. Screw on the striker plate.
